N506 Project Form

Specific guidelines governing the Technology Project in the School of Informatics are consistent with the overall policy established by the University.

Description

Students create and orally present a multimedia teaching/training project combining elements of digital media technology including CD-ROM, videodisc, digital audio and video, MIDI, and Internet applications. Requirements include development of the technology project proposal, oral presentation of proposal, research and development of project, final report and presentation of project submitted in digital form for permanent archive.

Purposes

The purposes of the project are to (a) demonstrate knowledge and skill in the student's area of specialization; (b) work in a team-managed environment; (c) facilitates a marketable product for the student's portfolio; and (d) develops student's self-confidence while working on a collaborative effort with other disciplines represented in the School of Informatics.

Eligibility

Students must be regularly enrolled majors in the School of Informatics at IUPUI who have at least a previous semester in residence. Participants must have completed all core classes (15 hours) and nine semester hours in the area of specialization. Additional courses in the area related to the project may be required before a student enrolls for the project. An overall GPA of 2.5 is required, with a 3.0 average in all INFO courses.

Advisement

Advisement is an inherent part of the operation of the project. A faculty member counsels eligible students at the time of application, during the project period, and following the completed project experience.

Reporting

Students are expected to meet with their academic advisor from time to time during the semester and are required to submit:

  1. A journal or diary outlining their daily activities, research, and reactions.
  2. A substantial written report analyzing and evaluating the project in which the student applies theoretical principles previously studied to the final product.
  3. An oral presentation before the faculty of the School of Informatics, including the research and development of the final product. Presentation to include digital art platforms.

Grading

Consideration will be given to written reports, evaluations made by the academic advisor, and the oral/media presentation before the faculty at the conclusion of the project.

Structure

Students who enroll in N506 must complete this form and secure the approval and signature of the supervising faculty member and the Dean.

Provide a detailed plan for the project you want to undertake. Bear in mind that your project work involves a minimum of 45-clock hours practical experience per credit hour.

  1. What would you like to accomplish? Describe the end product. What will be the result?
  2. How do you plan to do it? Be specific. Outline each step.
  3. What resources/facilities will you need to accomplish the project?
