October 29, 2007
November 4th through 10th is Health Information and Technology (HI&T) Week. This annual weeklong event recognizes the unique contributions HIM professionals make to the healthcare industry. This year’s theme is "Accuracy You Can Count On – Information You Can Trust." This theme is to assure the public that information essential to their health rests in the best hands in the business, the HIM professionals.
To celebrate the week, the Health Information Administration program will have an information table set up in the lobby of the IU School of Informatics with student volunteers available to answer questions from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Each day of the event will have a specific theme:
Monday, November 5Theme of the Day: What is HI&T Week?
Tuesday, November 6Theme of the Day: What is the HIA/Coding Certificate/Cancer Registry Program? How do I get in?
Wednesday, November 7Theme of the Day: What is it like to be in the HIA/Coding Certificate/Cancer Registry Program?
Thursday, November 8Theme of the Day: What can you do with an HIA Degree/Coding Certificate/Cancer Registry Certificate?
To wrap up the Health Information and Technology Week activities, on Friday, November 9, 2007, Ruth A. Walker, MIS, RHIA, CPHQ, will present a short discussion on the importance of maintaining an accurate and complete history of health-related data by keeping a Personal Health Record (PHR). This will occur at the IU School of Informatics Auditorium (IT 152) from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. and is free of charge to all students and faculty of IUPUI.
The goal of the HIM professional is to provide quality information to improve the quality of healthcare received. HI&T Week is an opportunity to learn more about the role these professionals play in the healthcare system, as well as recognize and celebrate their contributions to patient care, public health, and the bottom line.
