MAS students grace IUPUI Web site home page

To Chauncey Frend, it makes perfect sense: why not feel and smell your video viewing experience along with the pictures and sound? The senior Media Arts and Science undergraduate says that telling stories with video is what he's always wanted to do. And, Frend thinks there's a far more compelling experience to be had.
"I thought that adding interaction would be a better way to tell a story," said Frend. "You have video, audio and by adding smell, temperature, and the humidity timelines you, in essence, can draw a person deeper into an environment and tell a story much more effectively."
Frend is in the midst of this fascinating capstone project called PIPES, which is featured currently on the campus Web site home page. Click here to watch Chauncey explain PIPES and his grand vision of interactive media.
For some time now, IUPUI has been promoting the campus as a place "Where Impact Is Made", including the use of its Web site, where examples of student and faculty academic excellence are prominently featured.
Frank Tai, a recent MAS master's degree program graduate, was selected by campus marketing to appear in the "impact" campaign. A photo of Frank appears in a series of rotating images promoting IUPUI.
Tai begins a post-graduate in-residence internship program this summer with Pixar Animation Studios, creators of the wildly successful Toy Story franchise and other animated blockbuster films. More about Tai's work in 3D animation is available here.
This is not the first time School of Informatics faculty and students have been honored thusly. Recognition such as this underscores the confidence campus leadership has in the School and its programs. We are grateful for their support.
