IU School of Informatics at IUPUI names director of strategic planning and research initiatives

Barbara M. Hayes has been promoted to a newly created position in the IU School of Informatics as Director of Strategic Planning and Research Initiatives, effective July 1, 2008. A long-time member of the informatics faculty on the IUPUI campus, Hayes will be responsible for short- and long-term planning and analysis relating to the School’s strategic directions and general operation.
Hayes is particularly engaged in initiatives that maximize both research and learning opportunities. A member of the School-wide and IUPUI Informatics Leadership Councils, Hayes provides liaison services to internal and external groups seeking various kinds of collaborative research projects. Additionally, she is tasked with safeguarding faculty and student rights and intellectual property in research collaborations. Hayes also teaches undergraduate courses in social informatics, organizational informatics and information technology project management.
Hayes earned M.S. degrees in Media Arts and Science and Social Work (IUPUI); and a B.S. degree in Journalism and Classical Languages (IU Bloomington). Prior to joining the School of Informatics faculty in October 2003, Hayes was senior consultant at the St. Vincent Stress Center, a comprehensive mental health delivery system serving central Indiana.
