Informatics featured in recent video shoot for IUPUI TV commercials

August 22, 2008

There’s nothing like a robot to get the attention of a photographer. The proof lies in a recent video recording session arranged by IUPUI’s Office of Communication and Marketing for its latest round of television commercials during which a human-like android was a featured subject. Joining the android in the IUPUI spotlight was Karl MacDorman, associate professor, IU School of Informatics at IUPUI, who does research on how humans respond to androids and what the social implications are of such interaction.

Using the services of Road Pictures, an Indianapolis multimedia company, the TV commercials capture the academic and social life on the IUPUI campus to showcase exciting faculty/student research and to promote student enrollment.

Also on hand for the shoot was Chauncey Frend, a Media Arts and Science undergraduate, one of two students who served as “models” during the video session. You can see the finished product here (go to 2008-2009 TV Spots, and click on Lecture). A gallery of photos taken during the shoot can be viewed here.
