Huang selected for inaugural faculty service learning team

November 14, 2008

Edgar Huang, associate professor, Media Arts and Science program, IU School of Informatics at IUPUI, has been selected as a member of the first cohort of Faculty Liaisons in Service Learning.  Prof. Huang joins six other faculty colleagues from various IUPUI departments and schools in the pilot program.  Huang was cited for his leadership in service learning for his efforts to connect students with "real-world" experiences that feature public service components.

"Incorporating service-learning projects into a class makes all parties involved winners, including students, faculty, university and the community," said Huang.

The goals of the Faculty Liaison program include cultivating faculty leadership within the department/school for service learning and civic engagement, and to strengthen professional ties between campus entities.

IUPUI's Center for Service and Learning will look to the Faculty Liaisons to increase support for service learning and the RISE initiative (undergraduate Research, International study, Service learning, Experiential learning).
