Economic Predictions for Future Careers – IT Skills in Demand

Content provided by the Career Development Professionals of Indiana:

According to research from Georgetown University, 63% of all U.S. jobs will require a post-secondary degree by 2018.

Georgetown’s study, which dates back to 2010, includes many interesting conclusions. It speculates that the economy “will not be completely back on track until 2015”. As a cost-cutting measure, many low-skilled jobs have been automated or outsourced during the recession. Once the economy returns to a growth period (with an estimated 46.8 million openings in 2018), it will require college-educated workers to fill more highly-skilled occupations. 63% of these jobs will require at least some college education.

Because industries will demand more highly-educated workers to take full advantage of information technology advancements and because population growth is expected to slow during the next few years, the result is an expected deficit of “three million fewer college graduates than demanded by the market” in 2018.

What are your thoughts?  Are you ready to obtain your IT degree today?  If so then visit www.informatics.iupui.edu to check out the majors you can obtain.
