Is LinkedIn for Older Professionals? Younger? Or Both?
In today’s economy things are looking up, but some students struggle in finding positions. An article on the Fox Business website talks about LinkedIn as a “professional social network” site. Younger people are into social networking but have not engaged all social network sites equally. One example is LinkedIn. The average LinkedIn user, according to the article, is a professional in their mid-40s, but the writer confirms through the global spokesperson for LinkedIn, Lindsey Pollak, that LinkedIn has a lot to offer to aspiring young professionals. For young professionals, Pollak recommends using LinkedIn to: Manage your professional brand; Organize professional relationships; Gather and display recommendations; Become an expert; and to attract recruiters since recruiters use LinkedIn.

Economic Predictions for Future Careers – IT Skills in Demand
Content provided by the Career Development Professionals of Indiana:
According to research from Georgetown University, 63% of all U.S. jobs will require a post-secondary degree by 2018.
Georgetown’s study, which dates back to 2010, includes many interesting conclusions. It speculates that the economy “will not be completely back on track until 2015”. As a cost-cutting measure, many low-skilled jobs have been automated or outsourced during the recession. Once the economy returns to a growth period (with an estimated 46.8 million openings in 2018), it will require college-educated workers to fill more highly-skilled occupations. 63% of these jobs will require at least some college education.
Because industries will demand more highly-educated workers to take full advantage of information technology advancements and because population growth is expected to slow during the next few years, the result is an expected deficit of “three million fewer college graduates than demanded by the market” in 2018.
