Preparing to Graduate
IUPUI awards degrees to eligible students four times each year: December, May, June and August. Students seeking to graduate must complete several important steps beginning many months before their intended graduation date.
The first and most important step is the completion and submission of the Intent to Graduate form by the following deadlines:
- April 30 for students expecting to complete all requirements to receive their degree in December
- February 1 for students expecting to complete all requirements to receive their degree in June or August
- November 1 for students expecting to complete all requirements to receive their degree in May
Those who fail to submit this form by the stated deadlines may see their graduation date delayed. No degrees are awarded until all requirements are met and certified by the School of Informatics’ Recorder.
We encourage all students to meet with our student services advising staff at least six months prior to their desired graduation date to confirm progress towards degree completion.
We also ask all graduating students to complete the Graduating Student Assessment Survey, which provides the opportunity to give feedback on the School of Informatics experience and report employment data. Students receive an email invitation to participate in this survey.
Commencement
Commencement takes place every year in May. School of Informatics students may participate in both the all-IUPUI ceremony and the School of Informatics’ own ceremony. Those students welcome to participate in commencement include:
- December graduates from the previous year
- Eligible May graduates
- Eligible June graduates
- Eligible August graduates
Please monitor your IUPUI email account and www.alumni.iupui.edu/commencement for important commencement-related announcements, including any time/location changes and ordering caps and gowns.
Diplomas
Diplomas are not distributed at commencement. Students are notified of their diploma’s availability for pickup at the School of Informatics’ Recorder’s Office by an email to their IUPUI email address. Students must show a photo ID when picking up a diploma. Diplomas may also be mailed to students living outside the Indianapolis area if a current mailing address is provided via IUPUI email.
