Undergraduate Scholarships
The School of Informatics at IUPUI offers several scholarships for current undergraduate students in all degree programs. Students may also visit the Office of Student Scholarships for additional scholarships opportunities
The following items are some of the factors considered when applications are reviewed:
- Academic performance, noted by GPA, class standing, and/or other achievements in specific courses and programs
- Distinction already received, as evidenced by prior awards and honors
- Community service
- Work Experience
- Potential for continued success in the student’s discipline and for future contributions to academic or public sectors
- Applicant Statement
- Letters of recommendation
The Scholarship committee will meet after the application deadline to review applications. Scholarship winners will be notified via email or letter.

All Programs
Health Information Technology Scholarship ($500-$1,000)
One award is granted annually to a junior or senior majoring in Informatics, Health Information Administration or Media Arts and Science with an interest in health information technology. The scholarship may be given to a student with a strong affinity for working in a health field, whether through the study of informatics and the health sciences, health information administration, bioinformatics or media arts and science. Preference will be given to a student with a 3.2 GPA who demonstrates strong leadership qualities and a desire to pursue further education beyond their undergraduate degree.
Health Information Administration
Gertrude L. Gunn Memorial Fund Scholarship ($500)
Multiple awards are granted to students with junior or senior standing who have been admitted into the Health Information Administration professional program. The student must demonstrate academic excellence, a minimum GPA of 3.0, and financial need. Students should apply in the spring semester prior to their junior or senior year.
John R. Gibbs Scholarship ($2,500)
One award is granted annually to a full-time undergraduate student currently in the School of Informatics. The student must have a record of academic excellence and a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0. Preference is given to those who have demonstrated or expressed a stated interest in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Informatics Students
John R. Gibbs Undergraduate Scholarship/Graduate Fellowship for Innovation ($2,500)
One award is granted annually either to a full-time undergraduate student or a full-time graduate student currently in the School of Informatics. The student must have a record of academic excellence and a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0. Preference is given to those who have demonstrated or expressed a stated interest in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Dean’s Advisory Council Senior Scholarship ($1,000)
One award is granted annually to a student of senior standing currently majoring in Informatics or Media Arts and Science. The student must have a record of innovation, community service or academic excellence. The student must also maintain his or her major in Informatics or Media Arts and Science throughout his or her senior year. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0.
Media Arts & Science Students
John R. Gibbs Scholarship ($2,500)
One award is granted annually to a full-time undergraduate student in the School of Informatics. The student must have a record of academic excellence and a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0. Preference is given to those who have demonstrated or expressed a stated interest in innovation and entrepreneurship. State residency and economic need are not needed to qualify for the scholarship; however, in the event of two or more candidates being equal, preference may be given to an Indiana resident and candidates in financial economic need.
Dean’s Advisory Council Senior Scholarship ($1,000)
One award is granted annually to a student of senior standing currently majoring in Informatics or Media Arts and Science. The student must have a record of innovation, community service or academic excellence. The student must also maintain his or her major in Informatics or Media Arts and Science throughout his or her senior year. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0.
Joseph Maley Scholarship ($1,000)
One award is granted annually to a student of at least sophomore standing currently enrolled in the Media Arts and Science program. The student must have a record of academic excellence and a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0.
David M. Ratts Scholarship ($1,000)
One award is granted annually to an undergraduate majoring in Media Arts and Science who has completed the first semester of his or her junior year. The student must have a record of academic excellence and a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0.
Tyler R. Stull Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
One award is granted annually to an undergraduate student of senior standing majoring in Media Arts and Science. The student must demonstrate significant talent and future career potential in the area of graphic or sound design. The recipient will have an excellent record of academic achievement with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to students who are Indiana residents and demonstrate financial need.
