The School of Informatics partners with local companies to offer scholarships to deserving students. Below is a list of scholarships available at the Indianapolis campus. Many others are available through Indiana University. Contact us for more information.

Undergraduate Student Scholarships

  • FORE Scholarship

    The Foundation on Education and Research (FORE) Scholarship is available through the American Health Information Management Association. The scholarship is awarded through application directly to AHIMA. Information will be provided to students after acceptance to the Health Information Administration professional program.

  • Gertrude L. Gunn Scholarship

    The Gertrude L. Gunn Scholarship was developed in memory of the Indiana University Health Information Administration Program’s Founder. The Scholarship Fund is supported by voluntary contributions from the alumni and friends of the Indiana University Health Information Administration (HIA) program. Awards are designated for junior/senior students in the HIA program who are in good academic standing and can demonstrate financial need.

  • Mary Lacy McKenzie Scholarship

    The Mary Lacy McKenzie Scholarship was developed in honor of the Indiana University Health Information Administration Program’s retired Director, Mary Lacy McKenzie. The Scholarship Fund is supported by voluntary contributions from the alumni and friends of the Indiana University Health Information Administration (HIA) program. Awards are designated for junior/senior students in the HIA program who are in good academic standing and can demonstrate financial need.

  • OfficeWorks Informatics Scholarship

    This $2,500 scholarship is to benefit an IUPUI freshman of Hispanic heritage pursuing a degree in informatics or media arts and science.

  • David Ratts Scholarship

    The scholarship was created in memory of School of Informatics academic undergraduate advisor David M. Ratts. Recipients must be enrolled in the New Media program at IUPUI and should have completed the first semester of their junior year. Preference is given to candidates with a record of academic excellence as demonstrated by a minimum grade point average of 3.5. The scholarship amount varies.

  • Elton T. Ridley Minority Scholarship

    The Elton T. Ridley Scholarship was developed in honor of a great contributor to the Health Information Administration (HIA) program. The Scholarship Fund is supported by voluntary contributions from the alumni and friends of the HIA program. The award is designated for junior/senior students in the HIA program who are in good academic standing. Award applicants must be a member of a classification of individuals who are traditionally underrepresented in the HIA program.

  • Telamon Informatics Scholarship

    This scholarship is given in the amount of $1,000 to an undergraduate student currently enrolled in the School of Informatics, who has a record of academic excellence, demonstrated by a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

  • Van Ausdall & Farrar Scholarship

    The awards are made by the Van Ausdall & Farrar Scholarship Fund to full-time junior/senior students majoring in the Indiana University Health Information Administration program. Awards are predicated on demonstrated need as well as demonstrated ability to be successful in the program.

    In selecting recipients, the Selection Committee keeps in mind that the intention of Van Ausdall & Farrar, Inc. in establishing the scholarship was to help prepare qualified health information managers for the health care system of Indiana. Whenever possible, preference is given to Indiana residents who plan to practice their profession in Indiana.

    The number and amount of awards is determined by the Van Ausdall & Farrar Scholarship Committee.

Graduate Student Scholarships

  • Anthem Fellowships in Health Informatics

    The Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation Fellowships support 2 doctoral students in health informatics at IUPUI at $35,000 each for 2006 and 2007. The students' work will contribute significantly to Indiana's health information technology initiatives, bridging academia and the medical care industry.

  • The Guidant Foundation Fellowship in Health Informatics

    The Guidant Foundation Fellowship in Health Informatics offers an IUPUI graduate student $15,000 to support research and the study of knowledge discovery in data (KDD) within the field of health informatics.

  • Indiana Chapter of Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Scholarships

    This scholarship offers $500 to a selected graduate student in health informatics at IUPUI.

  • University Fellowships

    First-year graduate students are eligible for a limited number of IUPUI graduate fellowships. These highly competitive awards currently carry a stipend of $18,000 as well as the waiver of most fees for students, and are for the fall-spring academic year. Applicants wishing to be considered for an IUPUI graduate fellowship must submit all application materials by January 15th. Because this includes GRE scores, the test must be taken in the fall. Selection of the fellows is made only once each year in early March.
