Research

As a student of health informatics on the IUPUI campus, you’ll take advantage of a university uniquely-suited to conduct important and effective health informatics research. The School of Informatics collaborates with the many world-class partners available right in our backyard, including:

  • IU School of Medicine and its long history of fellowship training and medical informatics research;
  • IU School of Nursing and its national leadership in the field of nursing informatics;
  • The Regenstrief Institute, with its internationally-recognized research in health services and medical informatics;
  • And the IU Health hospital system, including four Indianapolis-based hospitals and physician groups.

Many of our faculty share joint appointments with these institutions to provide best-in-class interdisciplinary learning and research opportunities.

But the distinct advantages for health informatics research at IUPUI extend far beyond the campus itself. As a state, Indiana is a virtual life sciences hub and a national model for healthcare in the Information Age. With five health information exchanges and a health-information-technology-ready network of hospitals and physicians, access to patient data and research possibilities is truly unprecedented.

We encourage you to contact us directly to discuss your specific research interests and to learn more about the scope and type of projects in which our faculty and students are currently engaged – research that has won top-level recognition and awards from the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) for recent students.
