Microsoft’s Mary Czerwinski, Research Area Manager of the Visualization and Interaction (VIBE) Research Group, is the keynote speaker for the 2nd Annual Women in Technology (WiT) Networking and Career Day.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 11 in the IUPUI Campus Center Room 450A. In addition to the keynote address, the event includes a research poster competition with work from women students; a networking session to connect with women faculty and business leaders in technical fields; a career fair where attendees can meet potential employers; and the opportunity to connect with other women students in technology and tech-related degree programs. This event is open to all degree programs.
“I believe events like the Women in Technology Annual Networking & Career Day are important because they reinforce the notion that women can be successful as leaders in technology,” said Christina Dunbar, president of WiT. “More importantly, these types of events empower women to speak up and sit at the decision-making table.”
Czerwinski’s research focuses primarily on novel information visualization and interaction techniques. She also studies information worker task management, multitasking, and awareness systems for individuals and groups. Her background is in visual attention and multitasking. She holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from Indiana University in Bloomington. Czerwinski is active in the field of Human-Computer Interaction, publishing and participating in a wide number of conferences, professional venues and journals. She was awarded the ACM SIGCHI Lifetime Service Award, was inducted into the CHI Academy, and became an ACM Distinguished Scientist in 2010. She also serves on the IU School of Informatics at IUPUI Dean’s Advisory Council.
