Reversing the Brain Drain
The School of Informatics is committed to economic development in Indiana. The School encourages students to take internships in Indiana and to remain employed in Indiana.
Innovative Research
The Informatics Research Institute has undertaken a number of projects:
- NSF sponsored Distributed Molecular Database, making available a collection of 3-d molecular structures with graphical tools accessible by the Internet
- ArtXplore, a program developed in collaboration with the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Herron School of Art and Design, the Purdue School of Science and the UITS Pervasive Technology Laboratories. Deployed on a PDA, the program enhances a patron's museum visit with visual- and audio-enriched, multimedia content.
- The creation of an interactive, CD-ROM based video game for the Marion County Health Department's use in educating college-bound youth on the importance of getting vaccinated against Meningitis.
- The filming and editing of two video vignettes for the Center on Philanthropy for distribution to community foundations statewide.
- The creation of 3D scientific visualizations in collaboration with UITS Digital Media Services for use by Eli Lilly and Company in describing a vascular problem experienced by diabetics.
- IMLS sponsored Cultural Library Indexing Our Heritage (CLIOH), bringing Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Angel Mounds, and other threatened archaeological sites "back to life" in virtual reality
Informatics faculty are involved in funded research on diverse projects in:
