Research

Informatics Research Institute

Research in informatics moves rapidly. In some cases, theory can become application within months.

The Informatics Research Institute conducts research in areas of emphasis shared with the School of Informatics, including fundamental research in:

  • human computer interaction
  • information capture, management, analysis, and dispersal
  • policy and socioeconomic issues in information technology and applied informatics

IRI's Work

CLIOH

A major ongoing project of the IRI is the CLIOH Project. CLIOH's primary aim is to build a digital archive of endangered and threatened archaeological sites for the use of future scholars. A strong secondary aim is to construct virtual tours of these sites. Work has already been completed on Chichen Itza and Uxmal in Mexico and work is underway on Angel Mounds in central Indiana. The team plans to soon travel to Cambodia to document Angkor Wat.

Scientific Imaging

Faculty and researchers at IUPUI have specialized expertise in visualizing scientific and medical data and processes. See some examples of this work.
