Diversity
Intentional commitment to diversity is fundamental to the mission of the School of Informatics, and this commitment drives initiatives within our learning community, both in and out of the classroom. Our goal is to promote an inclusive environment where individuality is embraced and community is valued. We believe it is essential to grow a workforce that understands and represents the evolving society and world for which they create innovations, and with great pride, we celebrate diverse people, programs, and ideas.
Sun Yat-Sen University Partnership
The School of Informatics and the Sun Yat-Sen University School of Information Management have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a 2+2 program. Students will spend their first two years at Sun Yat-Sen University and then the remaining years of their program at the School of Informatics in Indianapolis. Students will earn a bachelor’s degree from both universities. Students will be admitted into the 2+2 program in Fall 2009 and we expect to receive students at the School of Informatics as early as Fall 2011. This initiative is part of a long-term strategic partnership between IUPUI and Sun Yat-Sen University. Several other schools and programs at IUPUI are pursuing similar 2+2 programs, so we look forward to a robust and exciting relationship with this institution. There will also be opportunities for faculty and student exchanges and research collaborations. Learn more.
Soon to Make a Difference
In an effort to encourage more young females to pursue a college degree in the field of technology, the School of Informatics is a sponsor of the Indianapolis Urban League’s Soon to Make a Difference in the community program. This is an advanced technology program for girls ages 12-16, which encourages students to explore opportunities in the world of technology and introduces them to Informatics and new media. The School of Informatics works with the SMD program by providing workshops throughout the summer using programs such as Flash, Dreamweaver and Microsoft Publisher.
